What a nice pleasant way to bring
STAG's 2007 / 2008 Events programme to a close. Those who couldn't make it
missed a beautiful event, if I don't say so myself !!!
New section on STAG Maps -
Competition venues & Schools mapped added 25th May 2008.

In 1982, St. Andrew's
Orienteering Club (Glasgow) was formed in the East End of Glasgow with the
primary purpose of making Orienteering a more accessible activity. We have had a
degree of success but the job is still ongoing!
This current web site
- created by Graham McFadyen - has been devoted to what has become known as the
ORIENTEERINGLASGOW Lottery funded project. The links on the left provide
information of the 12 courses set up in May 2002.
Details of the 3 NEW
courses at Pollok, King's & Glasgow Green have now been added although there
are still difficulties with CLS stocking such our map packs.
Although Glasgow has
always been the hub of STAG activity we have worked on projects adjacent
to the City in both North & South Lanarkshire and because of our links with the
former Faskally Outdoor Centre, near Pitlochry, the Club has mapped several
areas in Perthshire.
Do you know who was
the 1st Scottish Club to win the Compass Sport Trophy (Small Clubs)? Well back
in 1992 STAG travelled to Wales for the final and returned victorious.
Several members have represented West Area & Scotland at Junior, Senior &
Veteran level.
STAG is also
known for hosting top quality events. We have staged the Final of the Compass
Sport Cup & Trophy at Allean in 1992; Scottish Score @ Birnam in 1994; Scottish
11 Person Relay at Faskally in 1993 & 1995 at Allean North; Scottish
Championships @ Errochty in 2004; Junior Home Internationals 2002 @ Errochty &
Faskally; Scottish Orienteering League Events at South
Achray(87);Clunie(90);Allean(92); Allean(94); Leachdann Tom na Croich(98 &
2000). Added to this we are the only Scottish Club to have hosted the Annual
British Schools Championships not once but twice at Dechmont Ranges, Cambuslang (89)
and Faskally, Pitlochry (96), Scottish Score @ Inshriach in 2000 I'm sure this is not the definitive list.
Although the Club may
be numerically small, the individuals who helped form and create STAG
also made time to develop Scottish Orienteering throughout the
1990s. Former members Blair Young, Graham McFadyen & Peter Lamb all contributed
in their roles as Coaching, Fixtures & Treasurer within SOA. Currently only
myself - Publicity, Coaching, Competitions, Vice-Chairman and Jackie
Riley, Assistant Secretary are still active STAG members.
As our Club
accelerates past our 25th Anniversary, I once again extend a warm &
friendly welcome to all to come along and participate in our wonderful sport.
Best Wishes
Terry O'Brien,
STAG Hon President
