RUCHILL PARK - Orienteering History

First used by STAG in 1991 as part of 
"The Year Of
Sport", this park provides a 
sound introduction to
orienteering. 

A half hour stroll should be ample time
to visit all 10 controls.

Course checked February 2008 - Post 2 damp & needs repainted.

On going work on south side of park but Post 7 still accessible.

Park History:

Acquired in 1892.

52 acres in area.

The artificial mound, topped by the flagpole,
was formed from 24,000 cart loads of material.
It is known locally as "Ben Whitton" after 
Mr.James Whitton who was then Head of 
ParksDepartment.
