ORGANISER’S REPORT

In order to have a chance of providing a top quality event pre-entry is a necessity.

The workload may have been similar to a SOL in so many ways but dealing with 1

Entry, on 1 sheet from a Club saved many, many hours.

Knowing the growing demands on volunteers, I am of the opinion that if ESOC , with an entry of 50+ can do this for this event, surely it must be possible for most SOA Clubs to do it for SOLs as well – 7 times a year isn’t an impossibility is it ?

The forest part of this venture was well very received and enjoyed by the vast majority of participants. This is a tribute to the hard work Gerry put in and Blair’s working knowledge of Faskally – he controlled the 1996 British Schools Champs here.

The computing aspects were once again undertaken by Jackie as she is the only person in STAG with the necessary expertise and the Club is so thankful for her presence. No JR no Si!

STAG , at the last count, had a membership of 13. For this event I must also thank most sincerely the support from

Congratulations to ESOC, FVO & INT who have all qualified for the Final.

Good luck to all in the Final.

Best Wishes

Terry

Planner’s Comments

From the positive comments I have heard I think most of you enjoyed Faskally Wood, with its quality terrain and subtle technicalities.  I know I enjoyed planning and taping control sites.

Those of you who (enjoyed the climb) or didn’t I apologies, if it felt too tough after all some of the best bits of Faskally are up the hills.  A fair amount of thinning took place in the week prior to the event so some of the brashings were not anticipated so I hope they did not spoil your run too much.

My personal memories of the event were the good weather and the smiling faces ( I am sure Robert Findlay was smiling at the end ) and of course the magnificent snowdrop display after the finish.

Finally my thanks to all those who helped on the day, especially Blair for his very helpful advice and excellent guidance, and to Jason for his love of rhododendrons and also for making sure that the snowdrops stayed safe.

Thanks again to you all,

Gerry Thomson

Controller’s Comments

It was a pleasure to work, once again, with the enthusiastic, if small, STAG team.

There must have been worse places to be last weekend with a fine, small wood and sunshine. I think everyone enjoyed their run.

Winning times were fast but this was to be expected and indeed desired in a team event where many orienteers are asked to run up to complete a team.

This was Gerry’s first major event and I feel that he did very well with the obvious constraints of the area.

The back up team of Terry, as organiser, and Jackie in charge of computers ensured a smooth operation. A special mention to Jason, who made a special journey to Pitlochry on Friday to create the route after the finish to avoid the snowdrops. Thanks also go to Lynsey and Lynn. These 2 young ladies worked extremely hard over the weekend as planner’s and controller’s assistants respectively.
