As has been the case with a number of Scottish Orienteering Clubs, the concept of STAG was nurtured through the Physical Education Curriculum in St.Andrew's Secondary School in Glasgow in 1980/1981.

Over the past 20+ years STAG has and continues to work with the Education Departments of Glasgow City Council & North Lanarkshire Council on several fronts.

Our greatest success was the hosting of an Annual Festival Event for Primary Schoolchildren at Glasgow Zoo Park which became known as ZOORIENTEERING FESTIVAL.

In 1995 this event attracted almost 3600+ participants in the 1 day !!! Since the Zoo closed we have tried some local events but the number of participants has failed to reach this level.

In Glasgow, each Secondary and well over half  of the Primary Schools have been mapped through a partnership between the Club & Council. Inservice Training has been arranged for Teachers in May 2008 - check EDIS Catalogue.

Each May, STAG hosts the Orienteering element within the Glasgow Youth Games for both Primary & Secondary Schools in Victoria Park, Scotstoun. A similar project for NLC is under consideration.

In North Lanarkshire, a pilot project based centred on Chryston High School & local primaries is ongoing and recently STAG mapped & developed resources for the introduction of Orienteering to S1 students through the PE Curriculum of Coltness High School.

Meetings are pending with the Active School Co-ordinators from both Councils as we attempt to establish pathways into Orienteering.

Reviewed 19th May 2008.
