SIMPSON’S SOL SYNOPSIS 2010
Now folks you need to be patient so read on & remember a ROMPING day is planned for July 2010.
The Scottish Orienteering league tables have been published following the 4th event of the season, and going into the summer break, and STAG members are well placed to receive podium finishes.
W55L – 1st Pauline McAdam
W55s – 1st Pat McLaughlin
M40s – 1st Scott-Alexander McKendrick
M45s – 2nd David Allison
M50s - 2nd Gerry Thomson and 4th Terry O’Brien.
M35s – 3rd Jason Simpson
Also, in the ‘total points scored in ALL classes’, STAG have two counters in the top ten, with Pauline 8th and Scott 9th.
So there is all to play for going into the last 3 SOLs.
MAROC will hold the first of these on 5th September at Biresmore Hill. A map of when this was used for a SOL in 2007 can be seen at the following link (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rhwVzxQZgvI/RuRI4laUSsI/AAAAAAAAA7U/69UjY-bDwRM/s1600-h/scan0001.jpg ) which also shows the M21s course that day. This will surely be a technical challenge.
The next event will be a contrast at Tentsmuir North on 26th September. This forested sand dunes provides some tricky patches and is always fast and furious. It was last used as Day4 of the Six-days. An excellent picture of the forest and an example of the map can be seen at http://www.scottish6days.com/2009/about/day-4-tentsmuir.
The final event of the SOL calendar will be organised as part of the TINTO Twin, which this year will be on tour up at Inshriach. A part of this forest is available as part of the ROMP map of the month scheme so would be a good opportunity to improve technical skills in this terrain.
Good luck with your training over the summer months.
Events to consider over the next few months:
• 14th and 15th Aug Purple Thistle
• Clyde are organising 3 urban races in August – see their website for more details (15th, 22nd, 29th Aug).
• TINTO will restart their Tue evening series on 17th August.
• 11th July – Cumbrian Galoppen at High Brow.
