West Area Clubs presented The Scottish Night Orienteering Championships on Saturday Night the 13th February 2010 at Faskally Woods, Pitlochry. The base for this event is Pitlochry Scout Hall.

Parking for competitors when visiting the Scout Hall to either use the toilet facilities before your run, or for a cuppa & chat after the event – is in the Public Car Park on Atholl Road approximately 400m NW of the Scout Hall.

There will be NO TOILETS at the Start.

Thanks to the support from the owners of The Faskally Boathouse, we have received permission to park vehicles, for the competition, in the Car Park at the end of Clunie Bridge Road which is located just under the A9 at the very southern edge of the map. Car keys may be left at the Information Point adjacent to the Car Park.

NO WHISTLE; NO GO ! Competitors take part at their own risk & are responsible for their own safety at all times. Although a sheltered venue, competitors must dress accordingly for the time of year & may be requested to carry a cagoule depending on the prevailing weather conditions.

Pre-entries may go directly to Car Parking / Assembly without visiting Pitlochry Scout Hall.

Competitors from the South (A9) take the Pitlochry cut off. Should you need to visit the Scout Hall this is located on your RIGHT hand side 100m after passing under the Railway Bridge. Parking is a further 400m along Atholl Road on the RIGHT.

Please do not attempt to park at the Scout Hall as space is minimal.

To reach the Assembly Area exit Car Park & turn RIGHT along Atholl Road for approximately 1 mile & turn LEFT down Clunie Bridge Road. This junction shall be sign-posted. Please park as directed.

Competitors from the North (A9) should take the Pitlochry Cut-Off & on reaching the T-junction turn LEFT onto Atholl Road.

If you are going directly to Assembly the RIGHT HAND turn off Atholl Road is approximately quarter of a mile & is very acute. Should you require to go to the Pitlochry Scout Hall continue along Atholl Road for approximately 1 mile & park in the Car Park on your LEFT just at the end of the SHOPS then walk to the Scout Hall.

Competitors from the NE may choose to come via Glenshee > Kirkmichael > Pitlochry & if you do so follow West Moulin Road down to meet Atholl Road and depending on whether you need to go to Scout Hall or Assembly, turn LEFT or RIGHT as appropriate. Parking for Scout Hall is approximately quarter of a mile along Atholl Road on your LEFT.


As per SOA Rules & Guidelines for The Scottish Night Championships. Provisional information is shown below

>> Course 1: 6.7km, 310m – M21L, M20L & M35L.
>> Course 2: 5.5km, 260m – M40L, M45L, M50L, W21L, W20L, W35L,M Open 2
>> Course 3: 4.2km, 220m – M18A, M55L, M60L, W40L, W45L, M/W Open 3.
>> Course 4: 3.8km, 200m – M16A, W18A, W50L, W55L, M/W Open 4.
>> Course 5: 2.9km, 135m – W16A, Novice, M/W Open 5.
>> Course 6: 2.1km, 90m – Novice.
>> Courses 1 - 4 are TD5, Course 5 is TD4 and Course 6 is TD2.

Please note there will be a “NO WHISTLE; NO GO” policy in operation.

Start times:

Provisionally between 18.30hrs > 19.30 hrs. Courses close 21.00hrs.

Pre-entries on line with a closing date of Wednesday 10th February via “O” Entries.
