Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Activities are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Course Information

What is a SMILE ?

Put simply it is an Orienteering Opportunity being offered as a Saturday Monthly Introductory Local Event throughout STAG's huge catchment area.

7 dates have been selected and all shall use the same format

  1. Pre-enter by use of the Google form available from the specific page a fortnight before the event. Enter by the Monday before.
  2. On the Tuesday before the event shall either be confirmed or cancelled if interest is miniscule.
  3. This opportunity is supported from our STAG Development Funds and there is no charge to participate.
  4. No previous experience is necessary and a briefing shall be offered on the day.
  5. Starts shall be informal from 1pm to 2pm. Self-time if desired.
  6. 20 Orienteering controls offering 2 linear (set order) and 1 score (any order) options.
  7. Basic Orienteering equipment i.e. O flags and O clippers shall be used.
  8. All participants shall receive a Digital Certificate to mark their involvement.
