Race 1 Report - Terry
Thanks to Tollcross Housing Association & Glasgow City Council for their assistance.
With Bernie's help we had all the controls out by 9am for Blair to check. Myra arrived just after 9am and we set out the Glasshouse with tables/chairs awaiting the arrival of Robin and Sheila.
Then what a surprise we got when a fleet of trucks appeared completely out of the blue around 9:30am and started to 'prune' some of the massive trees on the main avenue.
The Start Team of Gerry, Kenny, Charlie and Trisha arrived soon after and everything was in place by 9:40am for a 10am start.
Times returned looked fine but then Sam annihilated Course 1 with a time of under 9 minutes :).
Controls collected in by Bernie, Matt, Ian and Kirstin from RR - thank-you and all locked up and away by 11:15am.
Race 2 Report - Ross
Race 2 at Alexandra Park went off without a hitch. The only rain came as the controls were being set out on Sunday morning, leaving me soaked but the competitors dry during their runs. Controlling completed in time for the wonderful start crew to arrive and set up, even leaving time for a cup of coffee before the first starts!
I positioned myself at the finish and the feedback from the competitors was positive, apart from the hill at the very start of all the courses! But that is what makes it fun and gives everyone a little bit of a challenge, I wouldn’t want it to be boring.
Myra assisted with a safety check for all competitors leaving the park, therefore ensuring safety and accounting for all starters. It also meant that we were able to promptly commence the control collection once all were finished. I was assisted by Alison, Donatas and Fredrik, and we had the park cleared in no time. Off to Drumpellier we went!
Race 3 Report - Terry
Over the years we have sometimes been able to accommodate a Chasing Start and for the 25th Anniversary this was the plan.
Originally the Start was going to be adjacent to The Crannog mainly to give us some publicity but then I decided that
i. This meant some dead running to begin with which wasn't ideal
ii. In bad weather this would present issues.
I decided to move the Start and The Finish into the woodland on the south side of Lochend Loch and I feel this worked well.
With everybody downloading as requested we had bags of time and I had hit on the idea that it would be more efficient to ask Matt to cycle round with the Start List to pass to Gerry.
The Start Team did a wonderful job and after planning Race 2 Ross still had the energy to bolt round Course 1 before taking on the role of line judge but it appears that there were clear winners and no controversy.
Matt then managed the troops to bring in the tapes, flags and controls/SI units so a big thank-you to those who assisted.
The immediate vibes are all positive that this unique event shall continue ; more information when available.
