Regional level event

Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Activities are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Report

Everything was going so well and then completely out of the blue the placing of '65' / '66' error came to light. At first my wee brain just didn't understand how this had happened but read on for an explanation.

DCP controls were 'hidden' late on Saturday pm after the deluge had hit Glasgow. The sudden downpour made the crossing of some areas problematic and this led to the error.

With the correct control for Spur South Foot located in my hand I could see the site across the marsh but wasn't able to cross so went further north up the track and crossed at the wee building.

My wee brain then decided that as I was now nearer the Marsh South Edge that I should just do that one first and that was what I did but with the wrong control.

Added to this error is the fact that even with glasses my eyesight has deteriorated badly in the last 6 months and the numbers are in fact too similar. Yet another lesson learned - orienteering has a nasty habit of kicking back when one becomes complacent.

On further examination of splits, with only 12/74 competitors deciding to 'go walk about' to look for the correct code number we have decided not to void any legs or courses.

I can only apologise for this error.

Big 'thank-you' to Dermid, Dale and Chris from NLC. Our race was allowed to go ahead as it was categorised as a 'Community Event' and not a 'Major Event' as such are still banned by NLC due to Covid-19.
