Regional level event

Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Activities are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Terry's Report

On Sunday evening I was told that a deluge had hit the East End of Glasgow around 9:30am on Sunday morning so why didnt it hit us? Who knows but it was a great day although a bit too hot for the Start Team Leader ;)

When we decided to keep the venues close, the planners were given the choice from Linn, Queen's, Pollok and Cathkin Braes CP. In essence Cathkin Braes CP eventually ruled itself out when Gerry and I came to the disappointing conclusion that the car parking area was just too small and alternatives very limited.

In the past we had parked at the Golf Course Car Park but in case you were not aware the Golf Course was closed last year but is still in use informally by locals so spaces on a Sunday morning would have been limited. However safety came first and the courses did not access the Golf Course.

Parking on Lainshaw Drive worked well. Thanks to Marta for helping me set up at 8am; to Lynn for covering Registration for Course 6 entrants; to Gerry, Charlie and Tricia for running the Start; Emma for the Safety checking on exit and to John McK and Team STAG* who then cleared the controls.

In discussion with Robin and Sheila, having obtained an indoor area/power source at Race 2 Queen's Park Pavilion , the decision not to download at Race 1 was agreed.

A special thanks is also extended to Christine Patterson who was kind enough to drive back from QP to LP as Charlie had put his car keys in the Race 1 box before his run but that box was now in Queen's Park :)

Fredrik's Comments
Being respectful of the Linn Crematorium grounds meant having a start and finish a little further away from parking than what is usually the
case for the Glasgow Parks Championship -- on the plus side, this meant one fewer hill to run up during the courses!

The vegetation in Linn Park in August can be tough, and I tried to plan courses to make the most of the challenge of the more forested areas of the park. Some courses could in hindsight have been a little shorter to take the difficulty of the terrain into account.

The need to secure control sites with cables also meant that many controls were tucked in closely!
