Explanation of Event levels

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Activities are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.

Pre Event Info

3 options - Long (5k) /Medium(4k) / Short(2k)distance all with a coaching emphasis as explained below. No formal results on STAG Website. Splits shall be supplied.

For this activity you require to match written control descriptions printed on your map with what you see within the various control circles & then by using the International Orienteering Federation's Control Description list you receive after you punch the Start Box visit the controls in the order listed on the loose CD. You are not allowed to mark your map in any way be that numbering controls or drawing lines.

If you are successful you will visit control 31 1st; then 32; then 33 etc. The above applies to the Long & Medium Courses only.

The Short Course challenges the basic skills of understanding map symbols, keeping the map set, moving your body around the map & the added challenge of navigating in the dark.
